I love this family to pieces so I was thrilled to photograph them for a Lamoille ranch family session! They wanted something that captured their family at the base of the Ruby Mountains and that also featured their cattle in the background. We made it happen despite the wind!
John and Susan are the proud owners of J.M. Capriola in Elko, Nevada. Their store is recognized for custom saddle-making and it is also the home of Garcia Bits and Spurs. If you need gear for your ranching needs, J.M. Capriola is the place! It is a family owned and operated business for 90 years! Traditions and the importance of family are at the top of their list! Being able to photograph families that hold their traditions close to their hearts is something I cherish!
I wanted to share some of the images from their session that took place on a ranch in Lamoille, Nevada.
I love this view!
One of the things about evening sessions is you run out of sunlight quickly! Sometimes, the most amazing sunset will appear out of nowhere! That’s when the magic happens!
Such a gorgeous couple!
The most important part about having family portraits taken is PRINTING the images! We take pride in creating wall art pieces families can enjoy for years! Check out this wall design that features three family images from this Lamoille ranch family session.
We combined this family session with a styled session for Miss Audrey and her horse. CLICK HERE to see more of her images on our blog.
I had the privilege of photographing Madelyn for her high school senior session at our studio. Madelyn is graduating from Spring Creek High School this week! So exciting!
One of my favorite things about Madelyn is how comfortable and easy-going she is. Spring Sessions are tricky in Northeast Nevada because the weather doesn’t always cooperate. Mother nature tends to be that box of chocolates we remember Forest Gump talking about. We never know what we’ll get! As you can imagine, I was thrilled Madelyn wanted a studio session!
Check out some of my favorite images from this studio senior session:
Madelyn, thank you for choosing Lindsay Syme Photography! You are going to do some amazing things! We wish you the best of luck as you begin your next journey!
Attention pants of high school seniors! Did you know we encourage parents to use this time to update their family portrait? We offer senior sessions with complimentary family sessions! Madelyn is the oldest of four children in her family. Having their family photographed before their family dynamic changes is so important. Here is a peek at a couple of their family portraits:
Now booking Class of 2020 high school senior sessions! Contact us today to get in this summer! We would LOVE to create something amazing for you!
I’ve been lucky to photograph the Walthers family many times over the last handful of years. It has been so much fun to watch their five boys grow! I met them when their third son, Drew, was just a baby! Now he is and 8th grader! Time sure flies! Fast forward several years and it’s time for a new chapter and a new beginning for this beautiful family!
New Chapter, New Beginning
One thing I have always admired about the Walthers family is the fact that they always make time to update their family portraits! This time was extra special. Hunter, the oldest son, recently graduated high school and was gearing up to head to the Philippines for a two year mission for his church. Two years is quite the length of time. This marks a new chapter and a new beginning for this amazing family. It kind of changes their dynamic a bit. Why not capture this special time with an updated portrait? We did just that!
I wanted to share a few of the images from their recent session…
Perfect time to grab a beautiful image of Mom & Dad…
Canvas Wall Portraits
Canvas wall prints are a great way to display your family portraits. They are timeless and traditional. I love hanging wall portraits in places where they can be enjoyed time and time again! Check out this display…
Walthers Family Color Palette
I love how the Walthers Family chose clothing that fits their personality and style! The colors worked so well together! All the credit goes to Melody. In a house full of boys, she always has it together when it comes to the details! Here is a sample of the colors they chose…
Calling all Elko County homeschool students! It’s portrait time! I bet many of you are getting settled back into your homeschool routines. That means it’s time to update school portraits too! We would LOVE to help you with that! Contact Lindsay Syme Photography to get on the schedule. We will be holding two session days just for homeschool students! Choose either September 18th or 19th. We have a few slots still available. CONTACT US for more details!
Tips to get ready for school portraits:
We always encourage brighter colors. Light colors have a tendency to wash out skin tones. However, the most important thing is that your child is his/herself.
Avoid shirts with logos and slogans so the main focus will be on your child and not the message of their shirt.
Schedule a time that works best for your younger children.
Glasses are okay! Remember, you want your child to be his/herself. We will adjust lighting to avoid glare.
Know which package you would like to purchase ahead of time. Please contact us for details.
We do have a large candy jar in the studio. We will check with you before offering any special treats!
I have a double chin and some curves but I did it anyway! You must be wondering what?As a photographer, I hear it all the time.Women declare how much they want an updated family portrait but want to lose weight first.I am the first to raise my hand because I have been saying that for years!I have a double chin and hate to see it in images.Let’s face it, the pounds pack on for some of us.I’ll even let you in on a little secret.I do update my family portraits but my poor family puts up with me as I race to check the back of my camera to see if I am ok with how I look. The funny thing is, my family never says I look awful. They never point out my double chin. They never tear me apart the way I do to myself. So last summer, my double chin and I joined my family for an updated portrait that was taken by someone other than myself.
Bert Behnke is an amazing photographer from the Chicago area.He is a Master and a Craftsman with the Professional Photographers of America and the founder of PPA Charities. He is recognized for his artistry and his generosity. He is absolutely amazing! We were extremely lucky to have Bert visit us and take our family portrait.I will admit I was nervous because of my own insecurities, but I also trusted Bert.He captured us during the golden hour with our beloved Ruby Mountains in the background. We actually hadn’t seen any of our images until Bert surprised us with the most amazing wall portrait during our studio reveal we won from the PPA Charities Dream Studio Giveaway 2017.You can see more about the reveal on the following Facebook video:
This portrait is gorgeous. It captured us exactly who we were as a family.I love the colors and the texture and the frame.I can’t imagine any other item on our wall that could make me this happy. It hangs on the wall that overlooks our entire living space.I see it when I come down the hall in the morning, I gaze at it while I eat dinner with my family, and I see it when I walk in the front door.I absolutely love it!My kids often tease me because I never get tired of looking at it.I love to walk up to it and take it all in. For me, this isn’t a portrait that gets overlooked on a day-to-day basis.I literally gaze at it and think about the many things it represents. It was taken at one of the most chaotic times in our lives. But no matter how chaotic that time was, my family was the only thing that truly mattered. I also love that the Dream Studio Team created wall art from family images I had taken as well. This wall is very special.
Time really does fly by.I am amazed at the changes that occurred since these portraits were taken. One year may not seem like much time but my kids have grown at rapid rates! In one short year, my son is now taller than me and my daughter is not far behind. The ages my kids were in these portraits marks a special time.It was pre-teen for both of my kids and probably one of my favorite stages in their lives!I will ALWAYS be grateful we had these precious moments created into portraits.
I will never understand why we, as women, knock ourselves so horribly.I won’t try and say that I have stopped beating myself up or that my double chin is my best feature.I will say, having our family portrait created by Bert last summer was something I will always be glad we did.I can’t get that moment in time back, but I can and will always look at our family portrait and remember how truly priceless this item is.I will always be grateful to Bert for giving us this gift!
I want to create that for YOU too! CONTACT LINDSAY SYME PHOTOGRAPHY to update your family portrait. Every session is tailored around your family’s interests, style, and vision for a final product.
I will never get over the fact that time flies right on by! I began photographing the Walthers boys when they were small. Now, the oldest is preparing to graduate high school! That blows my mind! They have grown so much! I wanted to share their recent portrait. We were lucky enough to take an extended family portrait for the entire family so we took the opportunity to update the boys’ portrait as well. Watching these kiddos grow up over the years has been such a joy! A lot happens in seven years!
Walthers Brothers 2011…
One of the things I admire about their mom is her appreciation for photography. She always made time to update their portraits over the years. That can be hard to do with a house full of busy boys! She definitely made it happen. I know she will always treasure the photographs. I am certain she will remember the most recent as her oldest son prepares to graduate and begin a new chapter in his life.
Stay tuned for a blog post on the portraits from the extended family session. In the meantime, look back on some other family portraits from the Walthers family HERE.

I love photographing families! I get to be a part of a moment in time that will be treasured for years. It doesn’t get any better than that. The stories that connect them are amazing as well! The Hemmert Family is one family I am grateful to have photogaphed.
The Hemmert’s recently had their portrait taken with us. I met them through a representative with the Tyler Robinson Foundation, an organization who’s mission is “to strengthen families financially and emotionally as they cope with the tragedy of pediatric cancer diagnosis by offsetting out-of-pocket life expenses.” TRF was created by the Imagine Dragons in the name of Tyler Robinson who touched countless lives before passing away from a rare form of cancer. This organization is very dear to the Hemmert family because their son, Emmerson, was diagnosed with Leukemia when he was two. The Tyler Robinson Foundation became a part of their journey. Last year, the Hemmert Family had the opportunity to attend the Imagine Dragons concert in Las Vegas. They even met the band! You can read the article in People and see their photograph taken with the band HERE.
Emmerson is doing well. He underwent ten months of intensive treatment. He is in remission and despite his ongoing treatments until the year 2020, he is swimming, playing soccer, and busy being an active boy. I will always be grateful to have met the Hemmert’s and to have been given the opportunity to take their family portrait.
Family is precious. The time we have together and the moments we share are priceless. Anthony Hemmert told me that their experience with Emmerson “made them focus on the small things and enjoy everything in life.” Such great advice! Thank you Hemmert’s for letting me be a part of your amazing family!

One of my favorite things about being a photographer is meeting people from all over the world. I was so lucky to be able to photograph these beautiful children in an Elko City Park photo session! Aren’t they gorgeous? Everything about them was simply lovely! They were here visiting family for the summer. The children speak mostly Arabic so I was extremely grateful to have the help of their mom and aunt. These two ladies were awesome troopers! Such a nice family! I wanted to share a few of the session images. We hit the morning lighting just perfectly that day! I was absolutely digging the golden tones!
Look at their adorable outfits! Those little suspenders!
That headband! Just beautiful! I could have photographed this little lady all day long!
This little guy had the most amazing curls! Just precious!
Look at those eyes! My goodness!
This is a custom wall portrait we designed for the family. They wanted something that included all of their favorite images on one art piece. The beauty about custom photography is being able to work with my clients closely to ensure they get exactly what they want when it comes to displaying their portraits. I am so glad to have visual software to help my clients see what the images will look like on their own walls before making a purchase.

Jasen and Shalynn are engaged! I had the best time photographing their Elko engagement session with their son, Landyn! What a cutie! It was an engagement and family session all in ONE! Plus, it was absolutely gorgeous out that night! I have to say, we are so lucky to live where we live. The Elko, Nevada area is so beautiful this time of year! I am really looking forward to their wedding this summer! Stay tuned for that! In the meantime, check out their session images captured by Lindsay Syme Photography. Where does the time go? It seems like the days go faster and faster! How do you go from this…
and now look who turned 5! Wow!
It is such a privilege to be able to photograph Elko families and their special moments over the years! A couple of years ago I chased this little cutie all over the park to try and take her picture. This year she pulled out her own posing and even taught me a thing or two! She is full of energy and an amazing little gal! It will be fun to see her grow over the years!
